While leading worship, Isaiah decided that he was going to break free from his daddy's care and come my way. He eased his way up onto my lap and proceeded to sit in just the right position so that I could continue doing what I was doing.
I must share how special and unique the moment was. It is not often witnessed nor allowed. I can understand why and at the same time, I felt similar relevance to what the disciples said to the children who were wanting to make their way onto Jesus' lap. "Then people brought little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked them. Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'” (Matthew 19:13-14)
Who better to have in our presence while worshiping and praising the LORD than children. The Kingdom of Heaven involves having faith like them; worshiping and praising requires faith that God is there and pleased and delighted by the outpouring of our hearts unto Him.
Children are pure in heart; coming before the LORD in worship and praise requires cleansing of the heart and mind - asking God for forgiveness and His leadership in leading us past our fleshly nature and into His glorious nature.
Children are humble; worshiping requires humility. Children are free to express themselves; worshiping requires freedom in expression.
Children can teach us so much about what it means to give thanks, exalt, mediate, praise, and obey if we will only allow them to do so. They teach us so much about love. They teach us so much about life.
Let us all press on to open our hearts up to the LORD more and more when we come into His presence. Amen and amen.
"Jesus, we ask You for grace to do exactly that - come before you just as we are. Holy Spirit, move us to trust You more. Move us to have faith like a child. Come, LORD and have Your way. Come, LORD Jesus, come."
